Triads

Triads are chords made up of three notes. The root, the third, and the fifth, shown in the diagram to the left.

The triad can be in three positions:

Root position is when the root of the chord is on the bottom.
1st inversion is when the third is on the bottom.
2nd inversion is when the fifth is on the bottom.
